Fifth Annual JMC Career Day February 2

On Saturday, February 2, Madison will be holding the 5th annual Alumni Career Day in Case hall from 2:00 to 4:30 with a reception following at 4:30.  Alumni Career Day is a program developed jointly by the JMC Student Senate and the JMC Alumni Association, and coordinated by the JMC Office of Career Development as a forum for current students to explore different career paths and to make connections with alumni.  The program consists of a series of two panel discussions, each lasting about an hour.  Career Day Website: http://jmc.msu.edu/career/CareerDay2008.asp

In each of the past two years, the program has drawn nearly 100 students and enjoyed the participation of over 35 alumni.  Both students and alumni alike have valued the opportunity to meet and interact with one another, and the program has helped a number of students make contacts that have eventually assisted with both job and internship searches.

Free Alumni/Student Reception at 4:30 in Case Hall
Following the panel sessions, an alumni and student reception, open to all area alumni, will begin at 4:30 pm in Club Spartan, third floor of Case Hall.  All alumni are welcome even if you are not attending Career Day.

For more information about Alumni Career Day, or about getting involved with the JMC Career Services program, contact Chris Foley at foleych2@msu.edu.

Admissions Help Needed

The James Madison College Office of Admissions is once again looking for alumni volunteers to contact admitted students for the fall semester of 2008.  Volunteers will be asked to contact (by phone or email) between three and five admitted students to congratulate them on their acceptance to the college and answer any questions they may have. Debaters Reach Finals at Cal-Berkeley

The MSU debate team started 2008 with a string of victories, culminating in a visit to the final round of the California-Berkeley debate tournament.  Three Madison students were instrumental in the team’s success.  Juniors Garrett Abelkop (IR) and Carly Wunderlich (PTCD/chemistry), achieved this impressive accomplishment by defeating a line of nationally ranked teams on their way to the finals.  Although they were defeated by a highly ranked team from Northwestern University in the final debate, their impressive performance helped position them for a strong second semester as the national championship tournament approaches this spring.  Sophomore Sam Shore (IR) and sophomore Ben Mehling (JMC, no major) also had a strong tournament, winning four of their six preliminary debates and thereby reaching elimination rounds.  http://debate.msu.edu/current_team.html
