JMC Depicted in Photos

Madison student and photographer Oliver S. Howell (PTCD, 2009) has made available to me the most amazing set of photos depicting some of the most important college events of the past year.  Naturally, being so “with it,” as are all Madison grads, I posted them to Facebook, the online utility that connects people with friends and others in similar social networks.  The URLs are below.  They give a powerful sense of the dynamism of the college and the joy of the work we do.  You will see a number of faculty, our newest Truman recipient, many alumni and students at our annual career day, and much more.  Enjoy!

New Book Published by Professor Simei Qing

Professor Simei Qing has written From allies to enemies: visions of modernity, identity, and U.S.-China diplomacy, 1945-1960.  Published in 2007 by the Harvard University Press, Cambridge, Mass, it is described as a "stunningly original work about the impact of cultural perceptions in international relations that offers a new perspective on relations between the United States and China after World War II."  The book is available at Amazon.com:  http://www.amazon.com/Allies-Enemies-Modernity-U-S-China-Diplomacy/dp/0674023447

Alumnus Appointment Announced by White House

Madison alumnus Ronald Tenpas (IR '85) will be nominated by President George W. Bush to be Assistant Attorney General (Environment and Natural Resources Division) at the Department of Justice. Tenpas currently serves as Associate Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice and previously served as US Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois.
