Four Madison Students Selected to MSU Homecoming Court. Members, nominated by an individual or an organization, were selected based on leadership, community involvement, academic excellence and Spartan pride. Madison Students See Success at Debate Tournament. The MSU Debate Team, including 9 out of ten Madison students, enjoyed success at the debate season opener September 21 at Georgia State University, traditionally considered one of the major tournaments of the debate season. http://www.newsroom.msu.edu/site/indexer/3201/content.htm Madison alumnus, Wallace Jefferson (Urban ’85), was awarded the MSU Distinguished Alumnus Award October 11, 2007 at the MSU Alumni Association Grand Awards Dinner. Jefferson is the Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court, the first African American to be elected to that court. The award is given annually to alumni who have distinguished themselves by obtaining the highest level of professional accomplishments and who possess the highest standards of integrity and character to positively reflect and enhance the prestige of MSU. He was the recipient of the JMC Alumni Association Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2001. Madison Alumnus, Jon Hoadley (SR ’06) was named Executive Director of the National Stonewall Democrats Board of Directors. Hoadley formerly worked at Gill Action, an issue advocacy organization working to secure equal rights regardless of sexual orientation or gender expression. For more information: http://www.stonewalldemocrats.org/2007/09/post-54.php#more Professor Anna Pegler-Gordon’s essay “Chinese Exclusion, Photography, and the Development of U.S. Immigration Policy” was selected for inclusion in the Organization of American Historian's upcoming book, The Best American History Essays 2008, to be published later this year by Palgrave Macmillan.
